Why join CUR?

  • Biennial National Conference
    • An excellent opportunity for faculty development and networking, and learning about undergraduate research programs at other schools, investigative teaching strategies, and funding opportunities. Workshops include many specifically designed for geoscientists. For example, at CUR 2002 workshops included "Practical Tips for Proposal Writing in the Geosciences", "PUI-R1 Collaborative Research in the Geosciences", "Funding Opportunities in the Geosciences", "Engaging Undergraduates in Planetary Geology Research", "Applied Undergraduate Research in Geoarchaeology", and "Involving Undergraduates in Research in Ocean Sciences". More information
  • Workshops
    • In addition to geoscience-oriented workshops held at the CUR National Conference, a CUR workshop is held at GSA and AGU (San Francisco) meetings on topics such as "Getting Started in Undergraduate Research", "Funding Opportunities in the Geosciences", and "Proposal Writing and Strategies".
  • Institutes
    • CUR Institutes enable teams of faculty and administrators to focus on developing a plan concerning specific issues pertinent to their campus. Institutes are on topics such as "Institutionalizing Undergraduate Research", "Proposal Writing", and "The Vital Faculty: Issues after Tenure". More information
  • CUR Quarterly
    • The CUR Quarterly features articles on faculty development, undergraduate research programs, and funding opportunities and strategies. More information
  • Publications
    • In addition to the CUR Quarterly, CUR publishes a number of "How to" booklets including "How to Get Started in Research", "How to Mentor Undergraduate Researchers", "How to Develop and Administer Institutional Undergraduate Research Programs", and "How to Get a Tenure-Track Position at a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution". Although written for a general science audience, the booklets are packed full of information of interest to geoscientists. More information
